August 17th Declared Day to Honor and Celebrate Thomas C. Chatmon Jr.
This morning, City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer declared August 17, 2023 as a citywide day to honor and celebrate the impact of Thomas C. Chatmon Jr. at his memorial at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando. "Thomas played a critical role in downtown Orlando's growth over the last decade and a half, including doubling the amount of residents living in the urban core, the addition of world-class community venues, and the development of an education hub at Creative Village," said Mayor Dyer. "We present this resolution to his family as a testimonial of the respect and appreciation that our community will always have for Thomas C. Chatmon Jr." View the livestream from the memorial here.

The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation Set to Distribute $1 Million
As part of the Orlando Magic's continuing commitment to the Central Florida community, the team has announced $1,000,000 in grants to be distributed through the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF) in three ways – a summer grant cycle, a winter grant cycle and microgrants. The first set of grants (summer grant cycle) totaling $370,000 will be distributed in surprise visits in August to 10 nonprofit organizations in Orange and Seminole counties assisting at-risk youth in Central Florida. Each year, the Magic gives more than $2 million to Central Florida by way of sponsorships of events, donated tickets, autographed merchandise and grants. At the heart of the Magic’s charitable efforts is the work done by the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation. Learn more about the OMYF and these upcoming grants here.
