12th Annual Orlando Women's Conference Announces Speakers
The 2022 Orlando Women's Conference, presented by AdventHealth and Orange Appeal, announces the schedule and speakers for this year's program, scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This one-day event is built around the concept of growing, nurturing, and empowering women leaders. DOP is honored to have our Executive Director, Jill Vaughan, as one of this year's panelists in the Define and Refine Your Brand morning session. Historic Women in Architecture
Discover Downtown is hosting Historic Women in Architecture at the Lake Eola Amphitheater on Thursday, August 4th. Guest speaker Gregory Stock, an architect, historian, and founding board member of the Orlando Foundation for Architecture will lead the program, discussing the amphitheater and its predecessor. The design came from Isabel Roberts and Ida Ryan, who made up one of the first all-female architecture practices in the country. Register for the event here.

 

 

Orlando Business Journal is Celebrating the 2022 Best Places to Work
This week Orlando Business Journal completed their 2022 Best Places to Work list, comprised of 70 businesses that represent a variety of industries within workforces ranging from 10 to 500-plus employees in Central Florida. Companies that participate in OBJ's 2022 Best Places to Work Competition are judged based on attracting and retaining workers.

Diversitastic! Dining Experience 
Get tickets for this month's Diversitastic! Dining Experience hosted by Fusion Fest. This month, the theme is Venezuela, and will showcase the work of Venezuelan artists, Anduit Goliat and JJ Gonzalez Acosta during the immersive experience on July 25th at Q'Kenan Restaurant.

Greater Orlando Sports Commission Announces Keynote Speaker for 2022 Celebrating Women in Sports
The Greater Orlando Sports Commission is hosting their 4th Annual Women in Sports luncheon presented by Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute at Addition Financial Arena on Tuesday, September 27th. Jennifer Rizzotti, President of the Connecticut Sun, will speak at the luncheon that honors local women for their distinguished service within the Greater Orlando sports community. Orange County Prepares Residents for Storm Season
In an effort to prepare for this year's hurricane season, Orange County Government is hosting a free self-serve sandbag program for residents at five Orange County park locations starting Sunday, July 24, through Sunday, August 7. Valencia College Awarded $25,000 for Metallica Job-Training Initiative
Valencia College has been selected to serve as a Metallica Scholars college for the third straight year in a row, receiving $25,000 for training in trades and technical education for students in Central Florida. Since being established in 2019, the Metallica Scholars Initiative has been working with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to provide direct support for career and technical education programs across the U.S., already serving 22 colleges so far. Valencia College will prioritize scholarships for unemployed and underemployed individuals, providing them with training to become welders, heavy construction equipment operators, industrial maintenance technicians, or commercial truck drivers.
