THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN.
Election season is behind us and a new year has begun! Now is a great time to get to know the newly elected officials who will have big impact on Downtown and our region.

Who’s Who.
For the City of Orlando, Orlando Rolon was appointed Police Chief (and you can hear from him at What’s Up Downtown on February 7). In Orange County Government, former Sheriff Jerry Demings will serve as the County’s first African American Mayor. Succeeding him as Orange County Sheriff is John Mina. And newly elected County commissioners include Christine Moore (District 2), Mayra Uribe (District 3), and Maribel Gomez Cordero (District 4). This will be the first time Orange County will have six female commissioners! Check out the Orange County calendar here and add “attend a Commission meeting” to your 2019 bucket list.

Tally-Ho.
With a new legislative session starting in March, the Orlando Economic Partnership is planning a trek to the state capital and wants you to join! The advocacy trip is slated for February 19 – 21 and Central Florida Leaders will be meeting with elected officials to show their support for BRIDG funding as well as other area priorities.

Rather outsource the politics altogether? There are some great Downtown firms that can help. Converge and Southern Strategy Group both specialize in all things lobbying and governmental affairs. Or for legal assistance and governmental relations, Lowndes and Gray Robinson have you covered.
